About Me

I’m a PhD student at Swansea University, exploring the exciting intersection of microbiology and engineering. My research focuses on the biophysical and biomechanical effects of biofilm microbiology, particularly how structural changes in biofilms influence the immune response.

I’m passionate about microbiology and its real-world applications, especially in healthcare and medicine. My goal is to develop innovative solutions to tackle biofilm-related challenges, including their role in antibiotic resistance.

Beyond the lab, I love exploring the Welsh coastline and experimenting with new cooking techniques.

Research

At Swansea University, my research explores the complex biomechanical and biophysical behavior of biofilms and their impact on healthcare and infection control. I investigate how structural changes in biofilms contribute to antibiotic resistance, resilience, and immune evasion, aiming to develop novel strategies for biofilm prevention and eradication.

To study biofilm behavior at a fundamental level, I use a combination of cutting-edge techniques, including Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, and Electrophoretic Light Scattering, alongside well-established microbiological and immunological methods.

Understanding how biofilms interact with the immune system is also a key aspect of my work. By developing biofilm-immune response models using neutrophils and live blood samples from donors.
